Fokker - Planck Simulations of Laser Filamentation in Plasmas
نویسندگان
چکیده
In inertial confinement fusion (ICF), where irradiation uniformity is a crucial issue, it is important to understand the process of laser-filamentation instability.' The breakup of laser light into filaments occurs as a result of plasma density depressions that form localized focusing channels. The density depressions may be caused either by ponderomotive forces2 due to laserplasma interactions or by thermal forces3 arising from collisional light absorption. The main consequences of the instability are that high-intensity laser irradiation in the filaments can generate ablation-pressure nonuniformities in ICF targets and give rise to undesirable parametric instabilities.'

A Fokker-Planck Code for Laser-Produced Plasmas
A Fokker-Planck code is developed based upon Epperlein’s scheme [Laser Part. Beams 12, 257 (1994)] for the investigation of laser-produced plasmas in relevance to inertial confinement fusion. The equations are integrated implicitly by the time-splitting method. The test problems are simulated to show the versatility of the code. The comparisons among our computational heat flux and the classica...
متن کاملDifferent Fokker-Planck approaches to simulate electron transport in plasmas
On the basis of our Fokker-Planck code “FPI”, a new kernel for nonlocal electron transport in plasmas has been developed. Large scale simulations of plasma macroscopic characteristics have been made by using both this Fokker-Planck and a new Hydrodynamic code using the new kernel [1]. However, these simulations were made with the approximation of spherical Rosenbluth potentials. We have now add...
متن کاملNumerical Studies and Simulation of the Lower Hybrid Waves Current Drive by using Fokker – Planck Equation in NSST and HT-7 Tokamaks
Recent experiments on the spherical tokamak have discovered the conditions to create a powerful plasma and ensure easy shaping and amplification of stability, high bootstrap current and confinement energy. The spherical tours (ST) fusion energy development path is complementary to the tokamak burning plasma experiment such as NSTX and higher toroidal beta regimes and improves the design of a po...
متن کاملMagnetic cavitation and the reemergence of nonlocal transport in laser plasmas.
We present the first fully kinetic Vlasov-Fokker-Planck simulations of nanosecond laser-plasma interactions including self-consistent magnetic fields and hydrodynamic plasma expansion. For the largest magnetic fields externally applied to long-pulse laser-gas-jet experiments (12 T) a significant degree of cavitation of the B field (>40%) will be shown to occur from the laser-heated region in un...
